Metropolitan Ballet Academy Student Dancers to Perform in “The Second Annual International Peace Day Concert” Saturday, September 20, 7 p.m. at Verizon Hall, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

Students Dance for Peace, Harmony, and Diversity; A World of Talent, United for Peace
Jenkintown, PA—Metropolitan Ballet Academy (MBA) student dancers will perform in the Second Annual International Peace Day Concert on Saturday, September 20, 7 p.m. at Verizon Hall, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Young dancers from the Jenkintown-based pre-professional ballet studio will join world class musicians from around the globe, Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale, Philadelphia Girls Choir, Chester County Youth Choir and Chorale, and ChildrenSong of New Jersey for a night of music and dance that celebrates peace and diversity.
The International Peace Day Concert is a night of moving multicultural music hosted by Harmony for Peace Foundation to celebrate International Peace Day, a global day of non-violence. Each year, Harmony for Peace Foundation invites performers from around the world, each with their own unique artistry, to embrace the many cultures and origins that influence their work and create unity and peace through music.
This year, the concert centers on the concept, “Celebrate Peace, Embrace Diversity” and features an ensemble of international performers with an Eastern and Asian influence in classical rendition. Participating artists include: Reona Ito, conductor, Udi Bar-David, cello, Hanna Khoury, violin, Hafez Javier Kotain, drum, Jiebing Chen, erhu, Micah John Walters, violin, Samuel Walters, cello, David Kim, clarinet, Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale, Philadelphia Girls Choir, Chester County Youth Choir and Chorale, Metropolitan Ballet Academy and more.
Metropolitan Ballet Academy will open the performance with the Children’s Mazurka from Paquita, choreography by Petipa, as staged by MBA Faculty Member Natalya Zeiger. The students were awarded First Place in the Ensembles Category for their recent performance of this classical work at the Regional Semi-Finals of the 2014 Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), the world’s largest international student ballet scholarship competition. A total of 16 young dancers (ages 9-15) will perform at the International Peace Day Concert, including: Juan Castellanos (13, Philadelphia), Aiden Daly (9, Philadelphia), Eoin Daly (13, Philadelphia), Tyler Diggs (12, Holland), Jacey Gailliard (9, Philadelphia), Grace Garrett (10, Meadowbrook), Marguerite Gelfin (12, Wyncote), Hannah Henderson (13, Huntington Valley), Ekaterina Hulayev (9, Abington), Ksenia Hulayev (11, Abington), Caroline McKenzie (11, Wyncote), Kyle Schoener (15, Chalfont), Micah Sell (11, Philadelphia), Cecilia Steel (11, Elkins Park),
Kieran Versaw-Barnes (13, Elkins Park), and Charles-Henry Waché (11, Maple Glen).
