Classes

Creative Movement 3 and 4 year olds combined, 5 year olds, and 6 year olds

Enjoyment and discovery are the goal of these classes. Elementary classical ballet concepts are combined with modern dance to introduce dance as a means of expression. The curriculum gradually expands with more complicated modern and improvisational exercises, folk dances, and pre-ballet study.

Youth Division Beginning Ballet: Levels 1, 2, 2x

Formal classical ballet training begins. Particular attention is given to postural alignment and the child’s developing anatomy. Proper technique and musicality are emphasized, while still allowing some time for natural movement and self-expression. As the student progresses, additional weekly classes are added to further develop muscle memory and strength.

Junior Division Intermediate Ballet: Levels 3, 3x, 4, 4x

Three or more weekly classes are required as the technical skills increase and more vocabulary is introduced. Strength and stamina are the focus. Preparation for pointe work and introductory partnering are introduced at this time. Students are encouraged to expand their studies through additional classes in modern and jazz, the master class series, and the summer dance program. Students in level 4x are eligible to audition for the Performing Company.

Senior Division Advanced / Pre-professional Ballet: Level 5

A minimum of four weekly classes is required. Students who wish to pursue a career in dance should attend two technique classes daily. Longer combinations of a more difficult choreographic nature are introduced as students strive for both athletic and artistic development. Repertoire, variations, partnering, modern dance and jazz are provided for this level. Participation in the Metropolitan Ballet Company is encouraged and provides the students with specialized coaching, guest choreographers and teachers, and additional performing opportunities. A Pre-professional program of classes is also offered via annual audition.

Adult Division Morning and evening classes in classical ballet.
